Faithful Responses to Eco-Anxiety
Forest fires, floods, droughts, severe storms, deforestation, pollution. Across Canada, and the world, people face the terrible impacts of ecological destruction and the climate crisis.
Specific impacts can vary widely by season and region. Some communities are more vulnerable than others. No matter how different people are impacted by environmental destruction or the climate crisis, these experiences can cause high levels of anxiety for everyone. How can we cope, body, mind and spirit? What are faithful responses to eco-anxiety?

Men’s Retreat: Creating Relationships of Resonance in Mid-Life
This retreat gives men a chance to understand the nature of the problem with masculinity, to experience an alternative, and to learn some ways of improving relationships and meaning in their life.

Advent Study 2023: Reflections at Advent on Bonhoeffer’s Meditations
The guide is designed to accompany the reading of Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s Advent meditations, God is in the Manger. These meditations are largely pulled from Bonhoeffer’s writings during his two-year imprisonment under the Nazi regime, from 1943 to the end of his life in 1945, when the Nazi government hanged him for his participation in the active resistance movement against Hitler from within the Nazi government. Set up in four chapters, one for each week of Advent to accompany the four sets of weekly readings in God is in the Manger, the study guide includes suggested spiritual practices and discussion questions to encourage you to engage in Bonhoeffer’s reflections more deeply. You can follow this study guide as an individual, with a study group from your congregation or online.

WHOLEHEARTEDNESS: Cultivating your Whole Heart in Times of Change
In northern climates, the vibrant colours and cooler temperatures of Autumn are followed by closely by the “bleak midwinter,” a time of growing cold and darkness. The natural world seems to die, but under the surface, it is slowing down, turning inward, digging deep, and storing up energy for regrowth. The same can be true for us. Now is the time to tend to dig deep and to tend to our whole heart.
This retreat is an invitation to slow down, turn inward and cultivate our hearts toward the wholeness, healing and spaciousness we desire.

Eco-anxiety: Practices Toward Hope
There is increasing attention to the fear and anxiety caused by climate change. It manifests in a variety of ways, causing both physical and emotional distress. If you feel these effects directly, or if you experience them through your grandchildren, coworkers or neighbours, we invite you into a day of helpful learning. Spend a hope-filled day with Dr. McCarroll learning about biophilia, eco-literacy and other protective practices.
